Bulbophyllum pygmaeum
Plant: forms extensive mats with match head-sized green pseudobulbs each topped by a single, leaf oval, about. 10mm long with a hairy margin. Flowers: solitary, creamy green, 3mm across, opens briefly but remains attached to capsule. The capsule is unusual in that the two upper valves remain joined when it opens, giving a wide mouthed appearance. Flowering: December to January. Habitat: lowland, in damp, open forest and scrub; on tree trunks and branches, sometimes on rocks or cliffs. Throughout. Conservation: locally common; not threatened. Notes: similar to B. tuberculatum and they may grow on he same tree. Key features: Often dense mats of tiny hairy leaves attached to a bulb. |
