Chiloglottis cornuta
Plant: usually 2 broad leaves with parallel veins, plants closely hugging the ground. Flowers: green, sometimes reddish, 20–30mm across. Labellum with large, glossy green or reddish brown stalkless calli. Fertilised capsule on a stem to 30cm. Habitat: scrub and well lit forest from lowland to alpine; common in mature pine forests. Throughout. Flowering: October to February. Conservation: widespread, often very common; not threatened. Also in Australia. Notes: It may sometimes have a single large leaf. Although the calli are always in a simple pattern (2 basal, 2 central, 2 lateral) they vary in colour, number and size. Key features: pair of broad green leaves and large flower, a few large bead like, shiny calli on labellum. |
