Plant: leaves to 10 x 35 mm ovate, dark almost blackish-green.

Flowers: greenish 25 mm across darken to purple brown. Labellum with one tall stalked, black topped callus with several more or less sessile calli around it.

Flowering: October to December.

Habitat: under Corsican pine at Iwitahi and Hanmer; also Nelson, Fiordland, Wakatipu.

Conservation: discrete localities and colonies spreading vegetatively. Vagrant.

Notes: all colonies appeared around the same time. Plant larger than C. cornuta, leaves wider and longer. Some plants set seed in NZ even though it appears to lack its pollinator

Key features: dark flower with broad petals and few tall callii.
