Plant: to 5cm tall. Leaves 10mm wide, variable from kidney shape to orbicular-cordate and mucronate Flowers: usually below leaf, sometimes above. Dorsal sepal ovoid much narrower than he labellum top, streaked red with a small point jutting out beyond the labellum. Labellum dark crimson, streaked green The labellum midlobe oval, elongate with a green or cream opening . Flowering: June to October. Habitat: dry areas under beech and other light canopy. Waikato southwards. Conservation: not assessed. Notes: DNA analysis shows it is close to C. hypogaeus. Key features: a very elongate narrow labellum midlobe with red wings and a dorsal sepal that is often somewhat narrow and peaked and sits loosely on the labellum top. |
