Plant: leaves kidney-shaped, to 45mm across, as long as they are wide with a prominent pointed tip. Flowers below or just above the leaf.

Flowers: up to 15mm across, dorsal sepal smooth and maroon, or green streaked maroon, lateral sepals to 80mm long, somewhat longer than the petals. Labellum midlobe dark maroon, edges inrolled, hairy in the lower part of the wings. A variable area around the aperture greenish cream.

Flowering: October to November.

Habitat: various forest, damp ground and moderate shade.

Conservation: Widespread, common.

Notes: Quite variable in colouring of the dorsal sepal and extent of colour around the labellum aperture.

Key features: labellum mostly dark maroon with a greenish area around the aperture, wings often densely hairy.
