Cyrtostylis rotundifolia Plant: Terrestrial tuberous herb. To 10cm high when in flower. Stem slender, erect. Leaf sessile, usually kidney-shaped, low on the stem often flat to the ground.
Flowers: colourless to dull pink to maroon with flat, oblong, glistening conspicuous labellum bearing nectar droplets and two conspicuous basal calli. Flowering: July to August. Habitat: open scrub and shaded forest, often coastal. Northland o Nelson. Conservation: often numerous and locally scattered densely over a wide area; not threatened. Notes: ecologically distinct but very similar to C. oblonga and not always easily distinguished as the flowers are identical. The leaves can be quite variable, sometimes almost oblong. Key features: a broad, weakly veined leaf but leaves quite variable in size and shape in one locality. |
