Gastrodia cooperiae
Potato Orchid Plant: to 1 m tall with up to 40 fragrant flowers. Flowers: column long and visible at opening of flower. Labellum tip black. Flowering: December to January. Habitat: forest and kanuka scrub. Wairarapa and Nelson. Conservation: known from a few sites, threatened / nationally critical. Notes: can be as tall but is less robust than its relation G. molloyi. Key features: knobbly flower with a long column and black tipped labellum visible at the tube mouth. |
