Gastrodia minor
Small Potato Orchid Plant: slender, less than 30cm tall, smooth, up to 10-flowered. Flowers: with tubular brown ridged straight buds which rarely open to show white petals and sepals and a yellow labellum. Column short. Flowering: November to January. Habitat: often grows under manuka, pines, kamahi or gorse, or amongst Spanish heather. Throughout. Conservation: uncommon, and usually only a few plants, not threatened. Notes: distinguished by the smooth stem; few, smooth, narrow flowers. Key features: few, smooth to ribbed flowers that scarcely open. |
