Prasophyllum hectorii Plant: to 90cm tall, the flowers often green, flushed red purple outside and white within. Flowers: Labellum uppermost, margins usually white, showy; sharply bent at middle, callus smooth, flushed pale green, rather narrow and reaching just beyond the bend. Strongly perfumed to many people. Flowering: December to February. Habitat: sedgelands, in flowing or still water, often floating, its roots barely touching the peat. Conservation: uncommon and very local requiring very specific habitat, vulnerable. Notes: several colour forms: Chatham plants are yellow. Key features: very wet habitat, white, frilled labellum. |
