Pterostylis cernua Plant: to 12cm tall with 4–5 sheathing narrow leaves. Flowers: medium sized 15-20mm long, quite nodding. Dorsal sepal with an upturned tip. Lateral sepals not much taller than the dorsal sepal, stout curled forwards. Labellum dark green with central blackish green callus, protruding through the V sinus of the lateral sepals. Flowering: November to January. Habitat: Sphagnum moss, wet open forest areas and scrub. Westland. Conservation: uncommon, but locally abundant, naturally sparse. Notes: formerly part of the P. montana group Key features: medium sized, nodding flower, labellum dark green, protruding, with a central dark callus ridge. |
