Plant: tall to 30 cm or even 1 m tall on a slender stem. Leaves long and narrow, 5-15 cm x 5-10 mm, dark green glossy grass-like, channelled leaves that overtop a relatively small flower.

Flowers: small 15-30 mm tall. Labellum greenish black, with few, widely spaced nerves. Tepals sometimes reddish tipped.

Flowering: September to October

Habitat: lowland to montane, light forest and scrub. Throughout.

Conservation: common, not threatened.

Notes: A highly variable species, several distinct forms seem to be present, some habitat related.

Key features: relatively small flower on a slender stem and long, narrow, shiny dark green leaves.
