Plant: to 25 cm tall but sometimes much less especially at higher altitude. Upper leaf overtops the flower, linear, green, each 10 cm x 8mm. yellowish green V in section with well defined midrib stiffly erect and overtopping the flower.

Flowers: green with 4 translucent stripes tilted forwards so that the tip of the dorsal sepal is about level with its base. Lateral sepals stout, flat below but rolled towards the sharply tapered tip, often reddish tipped. Labellum 8mm long, oblong, green under, near black on top.

Flowering: November - December.

Habitat: lowland to montane, light forest and scrub. Predominantly upper South Island.

Conservation: common, not threatened.

Notes: this is a common form in the Nelson region.

Key features:Small plants with short, broad leaves held stiffly erect, flowers nodding and the sepal points short.
