Plant: slender to 20cm tall with grassy, arched leaves 4-7 cm x 4-76 mm.

Flowers: medium flowered 10 cm tall. Lateral sepals flat, leaning out from the flower but not crossing the dorsal sepal and often curving downwards near the tip. Labellum greenish brown to dark green with a pink tip midway between the lateral sepals and dorsal sepal.

Flowering: November to December.

Habitat: shaded forest floor, typically in areas of base rich rocks. Waikato to Southland.

Conservation: widely scattered localities but locally abundant; uncommon, range restricted.

Notes: very similar to P. irwinii but with lateral sepals not overtopping the dorsal.

Key features: small flower, lateral sepals hanging below the dorsal sepal.
