Plant: to 30 cm tall with a basal rosette of broad rumpled round to heart-shaped leaves 20 mm across or short almost triangular stem leaves 5-20 x 2-5 mm; semi-mature plants may have mixed leaves..

Flowers: small, one rarely two 10-15mm tall. Dorsal sepal and petals pointed, about equal. Lateral sepals fine, erect and spreading widely. Junction of the lateral sepals strongly rolled outwards to form a thick lip.

Flowering: May to October.

Habitat: lowland to montane, light scrub and forest. Northland to Nelson and Marlborough Sounds.

Conservation: widespread, common, forming large colonies.

Notes: Like P. alobula but flowers slender. flowers occasionally turning reddish after pollination, sometimes lateral petals separate from the dorsal sepal.

Key features: presence of rosette and flowering stages, very small flower, lateral sepals rolled outwards at junction to give pouting look.
