Plant: Leaf narrow, fleshy, trefoil in section.

Flowers: 1–6 flowers, dark blue, occasionally pink or white, conspicuously striped. Column arms yellow or white, strongly curled like ram’s horns. Column purplish at the base with broad blue vertical stripes. Petals quite broad and blunt, wider towards the tips. Labellum large and wide, the blunt apex sometimes wavy. The column lacks a post-anther lobe; a few bubble like calli are present between the bases of the column wings.

Flowering: November to March.

Habitat: lowland to montane bogs and damp ground. Throughout.

Conservation: widespread and locally abundant in large groups. Not threatened.

Notes: distinctive broad petals and curled, yellow or white column arms.
