Plant: stem dark purplish, leaf and bud. Dark green ovary.

Flowers: deep purplish blue. Column base mauve, with red or indigo band then bright yellow top with a deep oval cleft. Margin not rolled. Straight column arms with sparse white cilia.

Flowering: October to November, opening rarely.

Habitat: lowland damp scrub and tracksides. Kaitaia northwards.

Conservation: scattered plants, taxonomically indeterminate.

Notes: differing from T. pauciflora and T. “Ahipara” in the dark colours, oval cleft and thin margin to the column top.

Key features: dark leaves, stems and flowers, column pale mauve with dark band rounded at the top. Top with a deep, narrow cleft tipped with a broad, yellow band.
