Waireia stenopetala Plant: usually 100 –200mm tall with 2 long stiff narrow leaves 10-15 x 1.5-2cm. Flowers: 2–3 green, conspicuously hooded, 10–20mm long, often marked with red or brown. Flowering: December to February. Habitat: in damp alpine or montane scrub and herbfields. Ruapehu southwards. Conservation: locally common and abundant; not threatened. Notes: often camouflaged but quite distinct. Key features: 2 narrow, leaves, alpine wetland habitat. |
